Science Research Specialist
ASSIGNMENT:
• Technology Transfer and Business Development Office
ROLE:
• A Science Research Specialist is focused, organized, and has strong communication and management skills. The candidate should be able to think critically when providing assistance on Intellectual Property Rights protection and Technology Transfer activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in the life sciences or engineering disciplines
• 1-2 years relevant experience
• 16 hours of relevant training
JOB DESCRIPTION:
• Ensures accuracy and completeness of technology disclosure and other formality
requirements needed for IP filing.
• Assesses invention’s technical potential and identifies appropriate intellectual
property protection strategy to be applied.
• Identifies defects or issues in the intellectual property asset/s, such as authorship,
ownership, novelty, infringement, or other potential sources of conflict.
• Assists in the transfer of ownership rights of the technology to the university.
• Performs initial review, assessment, and evaluation of the invention disclosure, if
patentable or not, and conducts search for prior art documents.
• Performs initial review, assessment, and evaluation of the invention disclosure, if
marketable or not, and conducts marketability search.
• Facilitates and conducts IP clinics to discuss the submiQed disclosure, results of
preliminary assessments and/or consult the drafted patent specifications such as
patent claims.
• Facilitates and conducts technology and IP Audits.
• Endorses technologies for procurement of IP services.
• Facilitates procurement processes of IP services and other related admin maQers
needed in the project.
• Prepares contracts and transmits to contracted patent agents including IP
disclosures.
• Prepares, drafts and files appropriate IP application/registration with the IPOPHL.
• Assists in the engagement of consultants/experts.
• Ensures the timeliness of the activities and deliverables of the project.
• Assists in the updating of the IP portfolio and tech database.
• Prepares publicity materials for the project.
• Keeps track of budget and finances of the project.
• Perform all administrative and technical functions related to IP protection
including Trade Secret Management.
• Prepares reports, minutes of meetings related to the project.
